Hi folks...hope you're staying warm and cozy as January flies by.

I wanted to address something I noticed today... Don't know if some of you remember, but last year, I posted pics of some seed pouches I had made, which were copied from one I had that had belonged to my granny. I had never seen any like hers before, so I was excited to share my own version of those pouches for sale.

Now, I realize that things are copied all the time, but it doesn't mean we are pleased to see them, right? Especially when we post on our sites asking folks NOT TO COPY!

This has been posted on my blog as long as I have had it...Be so kind... Please enjoy my pics, words, homemades and hand-dids. Please do not copy them...Thank you! Now, what part of that statement isn't clear?

I was visiting one of my 'favorite' sites today and low & behold, there were seed pouches very, very much like mine. The one difference was that mine are made from a variety of old homespun fabrics and these were plain.Ok, so you liked mine so much, you wanted your own? Well, at least give me credit for giving you the idea! Or better yet, give my late granny credit since she made hers back when I was a child, and believe me, that was a long, long time ago...LOL

BRRRRR... Be careful what you wish for...LOL We're having a mini-blizzard today. The only good thing about the wind is it will blow the snow sideways and over to another mountain!
We have some accumulation, but not too bad...the icy wind is the real test. We're hunkered down in our cozy little cabin, waiting for more of those unseasonably warm days.
Fortunately, Giles had some pleasant days, earlier this month, to finish up his log cabin orders for two of our favorite shops. If your weather is nice enough to venture out, be sure to look for our wares at JUST COUNTRY in Raeford, N.C. As for our first show of the year, we'll be in Fishersville, VA on February 11th for Winter In The Valley, so please make your plans to be there...No matter the weather, you won't regret the trip. So many great dealers with so many wonderful primitive/country antiques, folk art, make-dos, and handcrafted.

Not the 'blizzard type' winter...You know the one! Chilly temps, sunny or partly sunny...the sort of weather that makes you want to cozy up to the fire and do a little reading or stitching or just day-dreaming. The sort that leads us to the kitchen to cook a big pot of vegetable soup or spicy chili... Just saying, I'd love to wear a turtle-neck without breaking out in a sweat! Blessings!

YOOHOO! I'm so excited...
Folks, I am soooo computer challenged and several months ago, I lost my FOLLOWERS. I knew they were still there on my blog, but I couldn't see them nor could I see any on other blogs. I also could not sign on to FOLLOW other blogs since I couldn't see them or the place to click onto. I couldn't figure out what or how to fix it.
I took my 'puter in for a "cleaning" and got it back this afternoon and what a nice surprise... The computer guy added Mozilla and now I have my wonderful FOLLOWERS back...Welcome to all. I've missed you and am so happy to see you're still around. I'll be visiting you soon! BLESSINGS!

To all our loyal customers and the new ones we just met...THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! You made our show in Ohio this past weekend a great success. Our booth was almost cleaned out, so we're hoping you all are enjoying your new goodes and will come back to see us next year.

A wonderful 1840's log cabin village reproduced in Catawba County, N.C. Dr. Robert Hart has spent many years seeking out old log structures and bringing them to his property, reconstructing them and filling them with early wares...all to preserve a part of North Carolina history. One day a year, this property is open to the public (3,000 tickets are sold) to share some of that history. Yesterday, Giles and I made the trek to the village to see what 'new'/old cabins have been added since our last trip. What a treat!

I usually don't get on my soap box about politics, BUT! I just got an automated call for a survey. I never, ever do those, but was curious. I was asked three questions and afterward I would be connected to a service representative to get information on receiving a FREE trip to the Bahamas.WHAT?
The questions were: #1 How would I rate the Democratic party on their handling of the debt crisis? #2 How would I rate the Republican party on their handling of the debt crisis? #3 How would I rate the president on his handling of the debt crisis? Of course, I rated them all as low as I could go!
Then I was connected to a foreign person whose English was only slightly better than my cat's. She gave her one-line spiel about the cruise/trip to the Bahamas and asked "Now, isn't that exciting?" NO. I asked her why I should be excited about giving such low ratings for a government who is not listening to me and why on earth would I want to go to the Bahamas? I need to spend my money here at home! Then I hung up!
Didn't accomplish a thing but made me feel a little better to yell into the phone! LORD, GIVE ME PATIENCE...but I want it right now. Amen

Log Storage Barrel

I love finding unusual items but sometimes, I get just plain excited. This log storage barrel is a local find (never saw one in our area) and in great condition. Interesting that these were talked about in a recent issue of a primitive magazine. First, I apologize for not having Judy Condon's newest book, Joy of Country, at the Summer in the Valley show on Saturday. They were supposed to ship early last week, but we were notified mid-week that shipping would not happen until the 26th.

Second, THANK YOU to our wonderful, faithful customers as well as new ones who flocked to our booth on Saturday. Our hearts swell with gratitude for all the love you show us and the appreciation you have for our goodes! It makes all that we do worthwhile. NBC issued an on-air apology Sunday for omitting the words "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance during its coverage of golf's US Open.

The words were edited out of a clip of children reciting the oath -- a move immediately noted by viewers, who took to Twitter and various blogs to voice their anger, the Huffington Post reported.
In a statement during the broadcast, NBC commentator Dan Hicks said, "We began our coverage of this final round just about three hours ago and when we did it was our intent to begin the coverage of this US Open Championship with a feature that captured the patriotism of our national championship being held in our nation's capital for the third time.
"Regrettably, a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we'd like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it."
The words "under God" were not in the original pledge from 1892 and were not added until 1954.

I'm sure NBC was well aware that the pledge did not include the phrase, "under God". They say it was not done to upset anyone...WELL THEN, WHY DID THEY DO IT? Agnostics, atheists, etc. must be happy! What about us? We are not happy and I, for one, intend to watch NBC to see who their sponsors are and take out my anger by refusing to use those products. I'm not doing it to offend anyone...and I do not apologize for my beliefs or opinions. AMEN

What is going on?

Is anyone else having a problem with missing Followers? When I look on my blog home page, the spot where they should be is blank. It's also the same when I'm visiting other blogs...I don't see their Followers either. The only thing there is the header, FOLLOWERS...nothing else.

I posted a comment and have read several other comments about the same problem, but can't see where Blogger is doing anything about it.

I'm not that savvy about looking for solutions, so if anyone has any info or ideas, please let me know.

I know my Following friends are there...I just can't see who you are. : (

Heirloom Fishnet Canopies

I know...I'm hopeless! Each day, I think I'm going to post and have pictures and do all these grand things with my blog... I used to be so organized! I'm just as tired of my excuses as you must be...LOL

I do have something good to blog about, though. Through a series of events, I have had the opportunity to meet Miss Eula Osborne and see her wonderful fishnet bed canopies. I have one from about 30 years ago and love it. For all you Colonial Country decorators out there, you know what I'm talking about. These canopies are handmade to fit your tall pencil post beds and can be made to fit any size.

Miss Eula is such a sweet lady and has been making canopies for over 30 years, here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina...actually just a few miles down the road from us. Who woulda thunk such a talented and sweet person was so close. : ) Anyway, Miss Eula has a lot of spunk and determination, as she deals with diabetes on a daily basis. She's limited in other things she would like to do, but each day, she gathers her supplies of string/twine and weaves the most wonderful fishnet canopies. They're called 'fishnet' because the weaving resembles a fishnet...

Her brother makes the frames for the canopies as well as other items and they have a website... http://www.heirloomcanopies.com/heirloomcanopies.html

You can check the website to see the various designs and sizes Miss Eula makes, and I can tell you that she can make a wonderful, white canopy or my favorite, antique white.

WOW! What a great show! I finally got caught up with chores and errands and wanted to post a few pics of our booth at the WINTER IN THE VALLEY show this past weekend. There should be a better way..

There should be a better way! Got a call early this morning that we wouldn't need to venture out to help put the 'meals on wheels' food together because school was cancelled...because of the weather...again. The program goes by the school schedule. No school? No meals delivered. Hmm...don't people still need food? Especially because of the weather? I know it's dangerous for many of us to get out on the treacherous roads when there is snow and ice, but we were willing to try. Instead, we snuggled down and went back to sleep. How can we do that so easily when many folks had no means of 'snuggling'...very little source of heat and now, no food.

We live in the Blue Ridge Mountains...it gets really cold and it snows...and lately, that happens a lot! But what do the recipients of these food deliveries do when we can't get the food to them? Many of them aren't able to cook...many don't have the food items to cook...And what about the children who don't get to school because of the weather? Last year, they never were able to 'make up' the missed days "because of weather". Many of these children don't get a meal if they don't get to school. And if they don't have school on Fridays, they miss out on the food sent home for the weekend (The Backpack Program) What about them? There should be a better way!

So frustrating... Now it's about 10AM and looks like the sun may shine...so later, the temps will warm up (to a sultry 38*) Maybe some of the snow might melt and access to some remote places will be better...but we didn't go in to prepare the food, so these folks will miss that 'meal on wheels' today...I guess they can enjoy the sunshine as they listen to the rumble of their tummies...hungry for food and hungry for a friendly face...hungry for warmth...and maybe they can explain to the children why they don't have food today either. There should be a better way!

Yes, I do blog...just not as much as I should or could. LOL I have some friends who want to see & hear more blogging and some who don't care if they ever read mine or anyone elses.

Ok..this is for the ones who care... : ) The pic above is one of my favorites...first of all, I love Giles' workshop/barn. I can look out from the cabin and invision him working away at some wonderful creation. Sometimes, we'll go for hours and not communicate, but all either of us has to do is push a button on the intercom and hear the other one answer.

This time of year, it's hard to get too many simple goodes completed because of the weather...after all, that heater will only heat so much and feet do get cold. I don't venture out there too often in the winter...you'll laugh, but one reason I don't is my legs are so short, if there is much snow on the ground, I need 'hip boots' on just to plow through and down the hill.

I just leave him to his work and I try to do some stitchin' or some hand-work up here in the cabin. Around lunch time, he'll trudge up here for something warm to eat and then off he goes, back to his work. The man cannot sit still, so it's good that he has such a welcoming place to create...and I'm sure he spends a good amount of time day-dreaming too...about SPRING! A long time off, but a man can dream!

Hi Friends... I have a question and would like your opinion.

I know many, many shops have their holiday open houses, mostly in November and a few in early December. However, I never hear of a Christmas show in early December, SO: If a Primitve Country Christmas Antique and Folk Art/Handcrated show was held in early December, would you go? And if not, why? I'm not talking about an open house...it would be a bonafide antique show. I appreciate your opinion and ideas. Blessings...

What a man!

All I did was mention that I never get one of Giles' great birdhouses...they always get sold and then I ask when I will get one...of course I get promises but still, no birdhouse. Well, a few days ago, I asked him to make a BIG log cabin for me to put by the front door. I guess he felt like I never get one of his creations, so he'd make up for it. WHAT A MAN! He sure made up for those promised cabins.

This beauty is over 4 feet tall (not counting the chimney). I love it! Love it! Love it! He even figured out how to make the lights inside look like candles in the windows and look at the cute little gourd birdhouse in the gable end. It sits beside the front door so I'll get to enjoy seeing it many times during the day. Thanks Giles...you're the best! Love You!!!!! And my cabin!!!!

HELP!

HELP!
See that big ole braided rug? See where it is? After a minor 'flood' in our basement, the rug got
a little wet...Giles spread the rug out on the grass yesterday to let it get some sunshine and dry
better...Well, I didn't think anymore about the rug since it's too heavy for me to lift...I figured Giles would put it back in the basement when he came back up to the cabin. NOT! Imagine my horror this morning when I looked outside and there was my rug...WET... again. Because it rained last night, and this morning! Now the rug is soooo wet and has a few mildew spots on it.
Please, if anyone knows how I can clean the mildew on a big, wool braided rug, give me a holler!

Walk down 'Memory Lane'

What a special day! Not a big, fancy celebration...just a quiet day spent talking about the day we became Mr & Mrs, 44 years ago. We started down 'memory lane' with a simple breakfast, then puttered around town checking out local antique spots, drove up a few little roads to explore the countryside, visited our son, and then back home. Off & on during the day, we would look at the time and recall what we were doing at a particular time all those years ago. I will admit that today was a much more relaxing day than our actual wedding day... This evening, I requested that we have dinner at home...so, as we ate a scrumptious steak dinner we continued our recollections of our wedding and agreed that these 44 years have been awesome...a few bumps here & there, but not enough to consider. These years have strengthened our bond, given us two wonderful children, a sweet son-in-law and three special grandboys! We have spent countless hours talking and laughing and agree that those are traits everyone should adopt to make their marriage a lasting, loving journey. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Three years ago, I made a choice I will regret forever... We had the chance to do a show on Mother's Day weekend that would put us too far away to get back to visit my mother on her special day. For the first time in my life, I was not with my mother on Mother's Day. It was the last time I would have the chance to take her for lunch, give her the card and flowers I usually gave, and to hug her and tell her how much I loved her. The phone call I made wasn't enough...I was filled with guilt and sadness. I don't think I will ever be rid of that guilt and every Mother's Day I will deal with that sadness. I'm sorry mama! I miss you and love you!

Please don't miss the opportunity to spend this Sunday with your mother...It may be her last. It may be your last. GIVE MOM A HUG FOR ME!

A bronze beauty!

were all purple/blue ones. Today, I looked out from the porch and asked Giles if that was an

Iris that had turned brown or if it was one with a bronze/brown look. Low & behold, it was BRONZE....Beautiful...and it's right there among those that we moved...among the blues and purples...the pic doesn't do it justice at all, but take my word that this is a BRONZE BEAUTY! (by the way...I found one similar that's called Born Again...I think that's what happened to our purple Iris..LOL)

In my effort to find the right graphic/picture for my Easter post, everything seemed fake or artificial...just didn't 'feel right'! The only pictures that came close were always of Easter eggs...each time I came across images of those colored eggs, I had some flash of times past... SO, why not share some of those memories?

Memories of earlier Easter celebrations often involved a huge family gathering (my dad's side). The day began with Sunrise services at the family cemetary, Sunday School (oddly, we often skipped church or 'preaching') and then on to the egg hunt...this took place in some weird wooded area and ended with a huge lunch at some aunt's house. It seemed I always got a new taffeta dress, Mary Jane's (little black patent shoes : ) and a coordinating hat...Yes, a hat! LOL These fancy outfits did nothing to deter the "Tom-boy" in me. I ran, climbed, crawled, rolled, and pushed my way to find those special colored, oval orbs. The result was usually my finding the most eggs and thus, being the winner of the grand prize...a shiny half dollar, ownership of the eggs and FIRST in line for lunch. YIPPEE! Children never, ever got to go first - ahead of adults - except Easter.

Another, more vivid memory is one of my second grade class (teacher was Mrs. Smith) going to a nearby farm and enjoying a picnic under the shade of huge oak trees. Of course, before eating, we were treated to an egg hunt...we took bag lunches (sandwiches, an apple, carton of milk and either carrots or celery sticks) A special treat was eating some of the eggs we found in the hunt. Why on earth we didn't die of food poisoning, I don't know!

Way back when, we actually got Easter baskets...no plastic sand pails for us. The contents were the downfall of our little teeth. I remember candy eggs that must have been pure, hardened sugar; then some marshmallow filled candy eggs ( hate marshmallows in my old age ), one large hollow, chocolate bunny that usually melted into a small puddle of brown stuff, jelly bean candies, and of course those traditional dyed eggs... again, I loved peeling the crackly shell, adding salt and eating the real things...I'm beginning to wonder if all that hype about food poisoning is true 'cause we sure didn't shy away from day-old eggs...Hmmm.

I remember learning in Sunday School that we used the egg as a symbol of 'new life'...new life is what Jesus gave us when he gave his own life...that was a heavy message for a child and gave the egg a more special meaning during Easter celebrations.

Always a fond memory was that of coloring eggs...Once I got beyond the smell of boiling eggs, I got very excited about choosing the colors we used to dye them. Long before egg dying 'kits', we had to use food coloring. No rubber gloves, so that meant we ended up with red, yellow, green and blue hands...and those didn't wash off. We didn't mind that our colored hands clashed with the fancy, new Easter outfits! After all, after we hunted those same eggs, we got to eat them...LOL

My most recent memory of coloring eggs for Easter occurred a few years ago. My dear friend, Delores invited me to join her in a trip to her old friend, Leilani's, for a gathering of other friends...to go antiquing, enjoy fellowship, good food and laughter. While there, Leilani treated each of us with old fashioned colored eggs...But the great thing about these eggs was the amazing deep, beautiful, primitive colors and how she had used old-time methods to dye them. From beet juices, cabbage, eggplant, and various other items, she had created deep purples, dark reds, forest greens, prairie browns and tans, and blues I can't describe. Another wonderful thing about Leilani was how she gave so much of herself in the gift of those eggs. She labored a great deal to provide all of us with a gift representing 'new life', friendship and happy memories. The next year, Leilani was suddenly taken to heaven, but I will always remember the gift of those eggs. Believe it or not, I still have them...well, all but one. For some reason, one little brown egg exploded...just blew up...poof! I know Leilani was looking down and having a good laugh at that...

I hope when you see colored eggs at Easter, they have some special meaning or memory for you. If no other meaning, remember the gift of "new life"! Many Blessings for a wonderful Easter Sunday!

I so hate it when people work so hard to plan an event and something unavoidable keeps it from happening! Donna Smith and Linda Miller have worked so hard on the WINTER IN THE VALLEY show and along comes another winter storm...POOF...no show. They will be working equally hard to reschedule the show, maybe this summer. Keep watching for a new date when
all those wonderful vendors, plus more will gather to offer their goodes. This year has been a true challenge in many ways, but we have been blessed with good health, lots of wonderful friends, and each other.

We're already working on our old primitive antiques as well as homemades and hand-dids and will be offering them at some great shows during 2010. We also will have many new/old items in Sassafras in downtown West Jefferson, NC, so if you can't make it to N.C., please visit us at one of the amazing primitve shows during 2010.

If you recently purchased Jill Peterson's newest book, THE SETTLEMENT, look on page 146 and you will see this BIG log cabin birdhouse. It's next to the walkway in front of Millie's guest cabin.
She bought one from us at a Kentucky show and later ordered several to offer for sale to her customers in Georgia. I guess this will be the closest we'll get to being in one of these awesome books...LOL

Well, I usually don't ask Giles to make stuff for me 'cause he's always busy working on orders from 'paying customers'...LOL My sewing stuff (along with other 'important' things: ) was piling up and in this small cabin, storage is not plentiful...soooo, I asked and I did receive! I LOVE IT ! It sits behind the sofa..all 6 feet of it...with 18 drawers...PERFECT for all my really important stuff. Thanks Honey!

Let me tell you about this lovely hooked pumpkin! My friend, Delores does a wonderful job of hooking but she had some trouble putting the hooked sections together, so I lovingly said... " I'll see if I can do it..." WHAT WAS I THINKING????? This booger has crippled my fingers, challenged my mind and made sure that I will probably go to the 'bad place' for cussing so much...I'm not sure who came up with the instructions to put the finished hooked pieces together, but I'd be glad to revise them 'cause the original ones DON'T WORK! I sure hope my friend likes the end result...doesn't matter. I don't think she'll hook another one and I sure ain't puttin' another one together...LOL Love you Delores! : )

Now this is not good! We were heading for S.C. for our next show this past weekend...zooming down I85 when Giles says he hears an 'airplane'...WHAT? I hear a loud roar, look in the side mirror and rubber is flying in all directions from the trailer...we had a blowout! Pouring rain and a highway full of trucks and we have a blowout! NOT GOOD! Of course, we don't have the right lug wrench...so we drop the trailer, head for the next exit ramp and low & behold, there is an auto shop with a nice man who loans us a 4way lug wrench...back we go on the interstate to find the exit nearest the trailer. Giles tells me to get back in the Jeep...UH UH...I'm watching the traffic in case someone veers in our direction...I've already planned to grab the waist of his britches and drag him out of the way...Finally, he's changed the tire and we head back to return the lug wrench...I figure if things get bad, Giles can get a job with the pit-crew of some racing team~! Don't know which was the worst...getting soaking wet or stressing over all the fast-moving traffic while he changed the tire... OH! We tried to pay the man for using the lug wrench, but he said that's how he gets 'Blessings'...by helping others. ~AMEN~

ANOTHER SHOW HAS COME & GONE

Another show has come and gone...of course we had some rain late Friday evening, but by then we already had our things set-up and secured! The show was good...weather on Saturday was very nice...not too hot and NO RAIN...Saw several vendors we had not seen in a while and some of our regular customers came by to say hello (and they were buying also : ) Ann was working so hard to make things pleasant (with the help of her sweet grandson)...I know it must be difficult to handle such an undertaking, but especially without Al's help...Al has been quite ill in past months...Please keep Al & Ann in your thoughts and prayers.

This was one of our 'scare-people'...Giles cut out the head from tin and I patched the overalls...sold all but one. Sooo cute!

Plantin' and Growing Season Late...

Our flowering season is later here and no one dares to plant a garden until after Mother's Day...Our Iris' are blooming like crazy as well as the Laurels and Rhodedendrons (I know I didn't spell that one right : ) Falling tree blossoms and the winter's algae had made the fish pond very murky, so Giles cleaned it out this week...Wow! Those fish have a clean, clear pool now! It's a good thing we have a couple of big Birch trees hanging over the pond or our little fishies would be 'food' for some bird of prey! We have three fish...Big Red, Dennis & Eileen...although we suspect that Dennis is actually Denise and Eileen might be Allen..LOL Anyway, just wanted to share a few pics of 'what's happening around the Cabin In The Woods'...

Just look at all that junk...oops! I meant to say "all that great stuff"...Well, I finally talked Giles into taking time to make some doors...

Well lookey here...now we can hide all that "great stuff"...
Now if I can just clean up the other 'great stuff' around the cupboard...: )

Rough Weather In Kentucky!

Oh my! What awful weather we had trying to set up Friday at Cinnamon Creek Cabin...right after we set up our tents, the first wave of pouring rain and lightening came. At one point, Giles was sitting inside the tent...in a puddle of water...in a metal chair...soaking wet...all the while, lightening was striking all around! Ok...got through that! Then, we're still inside the tents trying to get stuff organized when the winds come (oh yeah! and rain too). Giles was holding the frame of one tent and I was holding a section of the other one to keep them from blowing over...he had only had time to put three tie-down stakes to hold tents, so the other sections were shakin', rattlin' and rollin'...the tent flaps (walls) came loose causing rain to blow inside and the ground became a mud bog! By the time all the storms were over, we were mucking around in gooey mud, soaking wet and totally pooped out. We finally gave up on organizing and vowed to return very early Saturday morning to complete our tasks... We headed into the little town where our motel was so Giles could wash his shoes ( he only brought one pair)...Before going to eat, we found a garden supply store and bought a bale of straw for use the next day. Although we had been soaked and were so tired, we tried a new Mexican restaurant and were rewarded with a scrumptious meal! Then off to our motel to collapse in slumber! Saturday morning (a 5:30am wake-up call) we headed back to Cinnamon Creek...the forecast was for more rain but we didn't see many clouds so were optimistic...the fields were so muddy, we found a high-dry area to park and Giles proceeded to tote the straw to our tent and we began to scatter it everywhere. Other straw was being placed in the pathways for buyers and other vendors, like us, were trying to pick up the messes and make some order in our spaces. Finally, the gate was opened, the skies were turning blue and cloudless and we began the show day with hope and anticipation! I think the crowd was smaller but still eager to check out all the gatherings...of course we sold out of most everything Giles had made as well as oodles of old small goodes. Didn't see much furniture heading out to cars, but lots of bags going out. Druann had good helpers attending to different needs at the show...especially those who transported purchases to buyers cars and those who used the tractor to pull out the vehicles that were mired in the muddy fields. So many great vendors, good live music and yummy food were available... Even if the set-up day was awful, the day of the show turned out to be lovely...You must make plans to attend next year! Just remember to take your raincoat, umbrella and boots (Just in case : )

Note: Druann and Michael did a great job preparing for the show, but during the days preceding the show, Michael became ill, ended up in the hospital on Friday and at last report Saturday afternoon, it was thought he would be having gallbladder surgery...Remember Michael in your prayers for a quick recovery and Druann for a recovery from all the stress and hard work she endured this weekend! What bravery to go through health issues while hundreds of people are creating a temporary 'settlement' on your property...Blessings to you Druann and Michael McCarty!

Good show at Cameron...

Whew!...we got through the Cameron show without rain! We had a few sprinkles while setting up on Friday, but Saturday was almost perfect...cloudy enough to keep it from being so hot, but not enough to spill those dreaded raindrops all over our treasures : ) We sold a bunch of goodes and equally as nice, we saw lots of old friends/customers...I could kick myself 'cause I always forget to take pictures...I did remember to take the camera, but once it got deep down in my purse, it was forgotten! I envy those who are diligent in documenting events...it's so easy! Especially with the digital cameras...what is my problem? Hmmm...

Anyway, we've unloaded the trailer and will reload in a few days to head to Kentucky...great show at Druann's and Michael's so if you're looking for a little vacation and some great primitive goodes, join us in Centertown, Kentucky at a GATHERING AT THE CABIN.... P. S. I promise, I'll take the camera...just not sure I'll remember to take pictures..LOL

Oh Lordy! I hate having to decide what to take to a show...guess that's why I usually wait until the day we load and just make quick choices...I know I'll take lots of smalls, but I've got to
have a few large pieces to put the smalls on...LOL Giles has been working his hiney off on some
cute birdhouses, feeders, prim blanket cranes, 'lighting', etc. Hope folks will be happy to take them off our hands : ) Of course, we'll have some great old stuff...I've even taken some things from the house (I do sacrifice things occasionally) If only customers knew how difficult it is to
knock the dust off these treasures I've been looking at and offer them up for public scrutiny...If no one chooses to buy them, I can bring them back home and put them back in their cozy spot. But if they leave with someone else, then I have to dust the spot they occupied in the house...that's really a 'labor' of love...See you in Cameron (we'll be in front of The Ferguson House)

I LOVE A GOOD MIRACLE!

Yep...nothing like hearing miraculous news...my friend, Sandy, was diagnosed with brain cancer last year; had surgery; went through a tough period of chemo and radiation...all this time, she's been a believer! She believes in the power of prayer...I do to, but seems like Sandy believes it, practices it, talks about it, lives it more than anyone I know. She's been full of sweet spirit, smiling and joking about her wig and hats and always concerned about what's happening with her family and friends...more concerned about them than herself. On rare occasions, she's lightly mentioned the fact that she might not be around for another Thanksgiving or Christmas. I don't want to hear that! I'm covering my ears, choking back tears and tossing out silent prayers, but no prayers like Sandy's...I swear, if someone around me is in need or ill or dealing with seemingly hopeless situations, Sandy wants the name of those people because she's going to pray for them...and it seems like those prayers are always answered in some good way...Well, of course people have been praying for Sandy too...and each time she has another MRI, it has been good news...after a long spell without any treatments, she's been growing new hair, handling her daily living without complaint, all the while dreading this next MRI...don't know why she dreaded this one more than the others, but she did...then I started dreading it, but after seeing her several days ago, I just knew it would be good news...AND IT WAS! Came home, checked phone messages and heard her cheerful voice saying she had the test, got the report and the MRI was clear...WHOOPEE! I LOVE A GOOD MIRACLE! Thank you GOD for blessing my friend...now, can you work on our friend, Bill? I know Sandy is putting in a good word....

What a miserable week... some days just aren't worth leaving the house! BUT yesterday was!
I had to go into town, so I stopped to check the mail and right there in my box was a package...from my good friend, Jenny (Just Country)...What could be in the package? And why did she send it? It wasn't my birthday...Hmmm. I followed my list of errands, all the while wondering what was in the package...Finally, I arrived home, unloaded my groceries, mail and THE PACKAGE. Do you ever do silly stuff like put everything away and "save the best for last"? Well, of course, I saved the package...Now, to see what's inside. A yummy jar candle, which I'm enjoying right now, a soooo cool prim bag with a pottery dish with candle and a refill, and the cutest grubby log cabin with tealight. What? No card, note...nothing to explain this wonderful surprise? Oh heck...I don't need one 'cause I already know why Jenny sent those treasures...She's just so sweet and thoughtful and sensed I needed a little 'sunshine'! Well, we made it back from Nashville, Tenn. and believe me, they have yucky weather too! We got to the show site a couple of hours before time to start setting up...and it's SLEETING! Cold, wet and sleeting! Thought it might lighten up by the time we started unloading...NOT! Just kept right on sleeting...I was wrapped up in a big ole rain coat, running in & out of the building with my treasures. At least it was an indoor show so I could wipe stuff off and not worry about it getting wet again. There were a few vendors who couldn't make it to the show because the roads were way too icy in their area. We still had a great Gathering, inspite of the lousy weather Friday & Saturday, and we're all looking forward to the next show in November 2009! I have pics and will try to post them in the next couple of days...

OK...I am not happy with my blog...I'm so totally computer 'challenged' so I can't decide what I want on here and I can't figure out how to do some things I may want to do. I know most everyone just lets the past postings hang around, but when I look back, there are a lot of things I just want to delete...they are old news or info and usually aren't of interest anymore so I've been deleting like crazy! Guess I'm still learning and playing with this...I'll keep trying and maybe it will get better...If not, you can use it for "how not to do a blog"...LOL

Early start...

No...I'm not baking up a bunch of cupcakes! I couldn't resist getting a very early start on some seeds I had...so I'm trying them in these peat cakes. I actually have bunches of sprouts in less than a week. I have to tell you, if you're wondering what to use to work the soil in those little pots, etc. look for your old baby spoons and pickle/fondue forks....they're the perfect size! I'm hoping to have some herb plants to put outside when the time is right.

Ok..here is the result of sewing all those pennies together...turned out really cute! I wasn't sure I would like all blues, but after I finished, it looked great and a perfect size for a shelf or small table. I wonder if I may be allergic to the wool 'cause this morning, my fingers were itching like crazy...I had a similar reaction when I was hooking my first (and only : ) rug.

I love these little overalls! I wore some like these when I was a little girl (many, many years ago) LOL They are soooo country...and how about the bag of Old Crow Marbles? I had the bandana fabric (has smaller pattern) to place in the back pocket as a handkerchief and sewed some little patches here & there...now I'm waiting for Giles to make some slingshots to put in the back pockets...too cute! These will add that special country touch at The Gathering in Nashville next month...

Changes in the air! And it isn't the weather...

Well frenz...it's time for the old folks to make some serious changes...so, after having a 'brick & mortar' shop for a good part of the past twenty years, we are RETIRING OUR RETAIL SHOP!
We will continue to do our shows and Giles will continue to do custom orders as well as some wholesale. We will also have things in a wonderful antique mall in Elizabethton, Tennessee. You must go check this place out...can you believe our gatherings will be in a real log cabin...? Yep! Right up there on the second floor...(I'll post pics as soon as I put new batteries in this silly camera)Anyway...we're very excited about this change...so we may be closing our shop doors but we will continue to be active in selling and creating primitive country wares. Please continue to visit our blog to keep up with our comings & goings and also our show/event dates. Thank you for being our special friends...MANY BLESSINGS TO ALL!

THE GATHERING

What a nice way to finish up the 'show season'...THE GATHERING in Nashville, Tenn. was

a great show with lots of wonderful antiques and folk art...I met some of the nicest people, one of them being Pam from Beehind Thyme Garden & Wares. What a sweetie...and she's very talented. I sure grabbed some of her creations for myself.

This was our first time setting up at THE GATHERING and we were pleased enough to make plans to go back for the Spring show in March. Also, we were pleasantly surprised when right

before the show started Friday morning, we were awarded the LOOKING GOOD award for

the Best In Show booth. We were in good company with all the other great looking set-ups!

Only thing was..we had forgotten our camera...DUH! We did borrow a 'neighbor's' camera

to get a couple of shots...do you ever look at the end result of your hard work and it looks great, but when you look at a picture of the same display, it just doesn't look that great? That's me...

I'm still looking for the 'winner' picture : )
