<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I usually don't post personal things...Just too personal! But I decided this needed telling.</div>
<br />
This is Michael...or Mikey...or Mike...or sometimes, Scooby! LOL He is our eldest child.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I will try to keep it as short as possible, mostly because I can't talk about Mikey without crying.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It has been a true challenge for almost all of his life...Shortly after his second birthday, Michael was stricken with a rare, and at that time, usually fatal illness...Reyes Syndrome. After several near losses, God saw fit to allow us to keep Michael with us, no matter what challenges might be ahead for our family. And there were many, many of those!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Obstacles were many, year after year, but eventually, he relearned how to eat, drink, walk, talk, laugh, and all the things we took for granted before. He even managed to graduate, get a job, move out into his own apartment and with his determination and help from us, his sister, and friends, Michael lived a fairly full and healthy life for almost thirteen years.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
About five years ago, he started having problems with spasms/jerking...sort of like Parkinson's symptoms, but not Parkinsons. We helped him move up here to the mountains and into an apartment, while we sought answers to this new health issue. After many tests, many visits to doctors, and many, many tears, we found a neuro surgeon who suggested trying a Baclofen pump...this pump would carry meds through a catheter to the spine and directly to the nerves causing the symptoms (now referred to as dystonia or "movement disorder")</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Michael enjoyed about three years of relief, but last year, he started having problems with the pump. Since then, he has had several revisions of the catheter, and all these surgeries have taken a toll. The most recent surgery was about five weeks ago, and recovery has been slow and filled with other problems. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now days, he seems tired...weary...almost sad. But, he is not sad. He meets each day with a good attitude and each time we are needed to help with some issue, we are filled with joy when faced with his smile and laughter...He's a real joker and if we get down, he picks us up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Believe it or not, Michael lives in his own apartment, and with the help of two awesome CNAs who visit for a few hours each day, he lives a relatively independent life. He can no longer walk, but has adapted to a wonderful power chair and is able to function pretty well. He is truly an inspiration!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm not sure why I am sharing this, but I hope people will gain some insight into what your friends, family or neighbors might be dealing with each day. Not that you actually have to do something personal for anyone, but be aware of people...of their feelings...of their struggles...of their sadness...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pray for them, think of them, be considerate of them...And GIVE THANKS each day for your many Blessings!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We have been Blessed with a wonderful son and no matter what challenges may face us, together, we will move forward...We will be uplifted by God, our friends, our helpers...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
P. S. I also think I am sharing this to explain why Giles and I have been quiet, as of late. We have decided to semi-retire from doing shows...at least for now...we just do not feel good about going far away from home. We will be taking a space in the local antique mall...Giles will still be creating, and I will continue to do what I do...LOL </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We ask for prayers...they do make a difference. We hope you will think of us and miss us at the shows, and maybe soon, we will return to some venues... If there is anything we have had in the past that you need or want, contact us and we'll do our best to "get er done"! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We have no regrets or hesitations about making Michael our first priority... He is the one who "lives" this difficult life and we certainly must help him all that we can... Blessings to all!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Been gone for awhile, but since I am a "work in progress", I've been trying to get back on track... <br />
For starters, I have updated my selling blog with a few special things, so be sure to click on the link in the right sidebar to see what I have to offer.<br />
Or you may click here: <a href="http://plainfolkssimplegoodes.blogspot.com/">http://plainfolkssimplegoodes.blogspot.com/</a><br />
<br />
Remember those crutches I posted on here awhile back? Well, ended up having knee surgery, so am still working on getting stronger so I don't go limping along like the old woman that I am...LOL<br />
Giles has been working on a couple of pieces of furniture for the summer show in Fishersville, so be sure to visit us in July to see what all he has created for you. <a href="http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/24322339">http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/24322339</a><br />
Lots of make-dos and other old goodes will also be available.<br />
<br />
Don't know about your weather, but we have had a good bit of rain. At least this mountain air is cool...sending some your way!<br />
What have you been doing to plan for the summer? Would love to hear from you. Blessings!Barbarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03823686734325342095noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181047138295852196.post-43312358421644112382013-04-25T16:23:00.001-07:002013-04-25T16:42:31.767-07:00SEE YOU AT CAMERON?<br />
<br />
Oh my...don't even ask! Life just keeps me all mixed up, but I still think of all of you and keep thinking <strong>I</strong> <strong>WILL UPDATE MY BLOG</strong>! <br />
Actually, I have recently been trying to get into the Facebook thing...Can't say I love it, but am getting a little more accustomed to some of it. <br />
I still love visiting other blogs and seeing what is new and exciting...not thinking that FB is all that exciting, but then, that's probably me...LOL I guess you "can't teach an old dog new tricks"...<br />
I promise I will be making a real effort to work on my blog...also my selling blog...Just be patient and keep checking it out.<br />
In the meantime, another of those "life" things coming up...another show. <u>In Cameron, N.C</u>. Sure hope you can make it... Remember, we will be set up in front of The Ferguson House. See you there! <a href="http://www.antiquesofcameron.com/events.htm">http://www.antiquesofcameron.com/events.htm</a><br />
P.S. A LITTLE SECRET! They don't advertise it, but you can actually <em>buy on Friday</em> at Cameron. Just don't get there too early, because vendors do not start setting up until after 9:00AM. <br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
How many of you have ever picked up a 'lucky penny'? You know the one...heads-up, so it's supposed to bring you good luck if you pick it up?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That's what we did over a week ago. The very day Giles picked it up, ten minutes later our transmission went out on our vehicle...mechanic had it over a week, but finally called yesterday to say it was ready. We went today to pick it up and more good news...Might need a new water pump. Ok. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Driving home, all of a sudden a loud pop, then 'knock', 'knock', 'knock'...Oh mercy! Not another problem. Called AAA...(everyone should have AAA) to come get it. He does...takes it to our 'go-to-guy' to check it out. Lucky us! Seems a rock (WHAT? A ROCK?) somehow found it's way into the brake lining and broke it. Ok. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Moral of this trivial message? DO NOT PICK UP A PENNY, NO MATTER WHOSE HEAD OR BEHIND IS SHOWING. IT IS NOT LUCKY! Still, we are Blessed! Hope you are...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
P.S. Late note...turns out it's not the water pump, but the radiator! WHAT? GRRRRR.... Drat that dang penny! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On our way into town today, Giles handed over all the pennies in his pocket and asked me to toss them out...Give some of that 'luck' to someone else... Mercy, I hope not. Still Blessed!!!!!</div>

WOW! Over 10 inches in just a few hours... Beautiful, but such a wet, heavy snow. Now today, the sun is shining, snow is melting, but brrrrr...cold enough for me to hang around inside and get some stitching done.
Hope you all are warm and snug, enjoying some sunshine and cheer on a winter day.
Blessings...

Oh dear! Sure hope I can get this posted. Blogger has changed some stuff (AGAIN) so not sure how this will turn out... Anyhoo...I have a fun 2013 <i>Five Fun Friends </i>SPECIAL to tell you about. Robin (over at Millstone) is doing this, as are other prim friends, so here goes. The first five people who comment (from US or Canada) to this post will receive a gift sometime during 2013 ...no warning, no advance notice..just when I get the urge to share with you. It may be a small token of friendship, a make-do, something special when you least expect it. <br />
There is one catch to this... YOU must PAY IT FORWARD...In other words, you must post this idea on your site and choose five people to send a gift to. It should be fun...so go ahead...post your comment so I can see who my <i>Five Fun Friends </i>will be. <span style="background-color: #f6b26b;">Hmmm... Keep trying.. I may add a twist and increase the number of Fun Friends... </span>Barbarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03823686734325342095noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181047138295852196.post-31106965173342648672013-01-01T16:14:00.005-08:002013-01-01T16:14:52.705-08:00HAPPY NEW YEAR FRIENDS!Ha! Thought I forgot you, huh? No way...never! <br />
Giles and I do hope you had a good 2012 and we pray that 2013 will be as good or better for us all!<br />
We have several friends who are in need of prayer so get on your knees and put in a word for those who are having problems as they move into the new year.<br />
I have worked all day to get some 'new/old' goodes on the selling blog so go take a look and let us know if you find something you must have... <a href="http://plainfolkssimplegoodes.blogspot.com/">http://plainfolkssimplegoodes.blogspot.com/</a><br />
<br />
Now, for that promise I made to many last year...My gift of an old and favorite recipe. I hope you enjoy it... p.s. Very simple!<br />
<strong>Kraut Salad</strong> Oh, don't make a face. <br />
It's awesome! (A delicious, easy and downright pretty dish)<br />
2 cans (14.5oz each) kraut, drained and rinsed well<br />
1 large green pepper, chopped<br />
1 large onion, chopped<br />
2 cups chopped celery<br />
4 oz. jar diced pimento, drained<br />
Mix all ingredients and marinate in following:<br />
<br />
<strong>Marinade</strong><br />
2 cups sugar<br />
1/2 cup vinegar<br />
3/4 cup oil<br />
Stir until well blended and pour over kraut mixture<br />
Cover and let marinate for at least 6 hours (better if overnight) This dish keeps for several days and goes well with pork, beef or chicken. We often serve it along with a variety of other salads. JUST PLAIN GOOD! ENJOY!<br />
p.s. give the bowl a shake now & then to keep marinade and kraut mix stirred until ready to serve.<br />

I had promised many friends that I would offer a favorite recipe as a Christmas gift. I hope you will accept it as a New Year's gift, instead. I will try to get it on here between Christmas and New Years Day.<br />
I wish you a Christmas filled with love, family, good food and promises of a wonderful 2013.<br />

The future of our children depends on you using your God given right and privilege to select and elect those you think will take our great country toward a better AMERICA. <strong>VOTE! ...AND PRAY!</strong>Barbarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03823686734325342095noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181047138295852196.post-75410580257588934322012-10-25T15:16:00.000-07:002012-10-29T14:17:10.027-07:00Almost time...Almost time to make that trip to Lancaster, Ohio... Giles has been working hard to create a lot of new make-dos, as well as a few of his past items we have had requests for. <br />
We sure hope you can make it to the American Traditions show on November 2nd & 3rd...We are looking forward to seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and sharing our primitive offerings with you. See you soon... <a href="http://www.picturetrail.com/americantraditions">http://www.picturetrail.com/americantraditions</a><br />
P.S. Prayers and good wishes go out to all those affected by Sandy...whether you're dealing with rain and wind or snow and wind, please be careful. Stay warm and please, take care of your pets...They do not understand the bad weather, so they need protection as well. Blessings to all for safe passage through this storm...Barbarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03823686734325342095noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181047138295852196.post-32270826789126767202012-09-13T10:44:00.003-07:002012-09-13T10:44:48.268-07:00BLOG NAMES...<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ever wonder how blogs get their name? </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Karen at My Colonial Home ( <a href="http://mycolonialhome.blogspot.com/">http://mycolonialhome.blogspot.com</a> ) has given a challenge to all who care to join, so I am going to share how we got our name.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I started blogging in July 2008, so when we moved our store, it was only natural to want to start a blog for Cabin In The Woods.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">For many years, we had a country shop and when we moved to the mountains, we moved our shop to a downtown location. After a few years there, we wanted to cut back on the confinement of being in a shop every day, so we decided to relocate our business to our home, a cabin down a dirt path in the woods. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMOc2H0txaVDSKYcK3h886LLoo-Wa1HwrflxHwItBwOLzakN-u-gmGsxBLtpkSQa4ZryM5xpXVpldYGvdzQLwMoGNTkTCrKLGJX2jER-0l3TYXzBTrvspJlRxiq88qC0R9sJSvSvqZqgQ0/s1600/DSC00154.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hea="true" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMOc2H0txaVDSKYcK3h886LLoo-Wa1HwrflxHwItBwOLzakN-u-gmGsxBLtpkSQa4ZryM5xpXVpldYGvdzQLwMoGNTkTCrKLGJX2jER-0l3TYXzBTrvspJlRxiq88qC0R9sJSvSvqZqgQ0/s320/DSC00154.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The downstairs was perfect for a shop, but since we were in a log cabin in a secluded, wooded place, the old name of our business just didn't work...Giles and I talked for days about a suitable name for our business and location...Finally, he wanted to change the name to "Cabin In The Woods" because that's what and where we were.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" hea="true" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinKSEczSMkxcF5oWMI6pTRtYxR-yby1vAlgzuoqQv4DMjMXVmuku2uNy_CIvx_TYGa_TGiZ76TeNcAsT11UmeIdc_MJIhZY9ODKAn9zYGSTMfT1Qy2yNxfqX0c3dEK8PcCxcBzOJFwQqQ5/s320/DSC00341.JPG" width="320" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It's not a really old cabin, but it's log and stone and perfect for us! We finished the downstairs so the inside looked like a log cabin and our goodes fit perfectly there. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Although we closed our retail shop a couple of years ago, we still use the store space for storage between shows and also for some of my creating. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Who knows, maybe one day, I'll reopen the store with limited days and hours just so we can get to see our long-time customers more often. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyFaaa8xlN7iZjmOuFtyNDh-T8h8zQtYyGOYSSr75RqU17pRudb6iRGpRujr9v-aLi-isxvER2WoiNRBlhOZOEmbYRN_k1Xg9-NN3_Xp5WmB8Elq5_22Hn7GWdRG3li_BK0bavYqZViu2j/s1600/DSC00337.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hea="true" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyFaaa8xlN7iZjmOuFtyNDh-T8h8zQtYyGOYSSr75RqU17pRudb6iRGpRujr9v-aLi-isxvER2WoiNRBlhOZOEmbYRN_k1Xg9-NN3_Xp5WmB8Elq5_22Hn7GWdRG3li_BK0bavYqZViu2j/s320/DSC00337.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Thanks Karen for the challenge...We love our "Cabin In The Woods" and are proud to share how we got our name.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If anyone else is interested in taking on Karen's challenge, you may go here </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Some new "neighbors" at the show were Kim and Rick Murray from Decator, Ala. So sweet and what awesome things Kim had created. Watch for her things...She may even get a blog going...Let's hope so. : ) </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Had a great time with Debbie and Hank (Four Meadows Farm) "next door" to our booth. Debbie had some great Fall creations, so watch for more of her things at her cabin in a few weeks. <a href="http://www.backshedprimitives.blogspot.com/">http://www.backshedprimitives.blogspot.com/</a></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia;">Seems I have a terrible habit of 'forgetting' my camera, so sorry I have no pics. <span style="font-family: Georgia;">BLESSINGS...</span>Barbarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03823686734325342095noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181047138295852196.post-60045931490904948012012-07-27T09:16:00.000-07:002012-07-27T09:16:34.125-07:00Mystery solved...Well, the mystery is solved! Sneezy, apparently, started out down in the 'holler' at our neighbors house. He was harassed by the neighbor's cat and must have grown tired of it and "ran away from home". LOL <br />
We don't have an outside pet nor any other animal to aggravate Sneezy, so he has latched onto Giles and the safety of the trees behind the barn. <br />
Our neighbor said the first time he saw the turkey, it seemed a bit tame. A bit? I think this turkey would come inside for dinner if we invited him/or her. <br />
Sneezy is welcome to hunt his bugs here and we will continue to give progress on his visit...he/she is quite entertaining and we feel honored he chose us for his sanctuary...I also look forward to finding out if he is a he or a she... May have to change his name to Sneezette! Blessings...Barbarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03823686734325342095noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181047138295852196.post-43277158303323340612012-07-26T15:54:00.000-07:002012-07-26T15:54:02.790-07:00Oh my! I had not planned on continuing to post about 'Sneezy', but that turkey is just plain funny! We had not seen him for a few days, so thought he had moved on. NOT SO! <br />
This morning, he was back at the barn, hunting his bugs and waiting for Giles to appear. He has followed him around all day, like a puppy running here and there. One time, he was sunning himself just inside the barn doorway while Giles had saws and drills going full blast...how can a wild turkey be so calm amid so much noise and activity?<br />
This afternoon, I walked out to the barn (with camera ready) and took a seat on the old bench on the porch. Up runs 'Sneezy' to stare me in the face, then began to preen himself only a foot away...guess he was trying to make an impression. Silly bird!<br />
The funniest and strangest thing 'Sneezy' does is when Giles pats his feet in time to bluegrass music (via the radio station in Galax, VA) 'Sneezy' comes running (seems he runs toward Giles a lot : ) and then watches the feet as they tap away...I'm sure he thinks the laces might be worms, since he pecks at them, but mostly, he watches the feet and sort of moves with them. Perhaps he's trying to pick up his own rythmn...go figure! A wild turkey who loves blusgrass music and humans! <br />

Apparently, 'Sneezy' feels quite secure here and loves his new 'family'. Maybe one day, some fellow turkeys will pass through and lure him away, but in the mean time, I guess we have a new pet. We still will not feed him or do anything to take away his wild nature, but evidently he chooses to tame a bit of that 'nature' by hanging out at the Cabin In The Woods. Blessings...Barbarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03823686734325342095noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181047138295852196.post-74517553477202088862012-07-18T17:06:00.002-07:002012-07-18T17:10:11.866-07:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, 'SNEEZY' is still hanging around, and getting braver every day. Today, we were loading the trailer for our show this weekend in VA (SUMMER IN THE VALLEY) and he strutted around among all the goodies, curious to see if anything was for him...LOL He kept coming up to me, staring into my eyes...don't know if it was a challenge or he found me 'mother-like', but he ended up flying onto my shoulder for a brief, up-close visit, then onto a table he found more interesting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Later, as we had the door propped open to bring goods out of the basement, 'SNEEZY' couldn't resist, so in he walked and started checking things out among our junky storage...Enough! Out he went after Giles shooed him away. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He is certainly charming and interesting, but as with all wildlife, we're trying not to encourage him to be our pet. Already, he is sure to become easy prey since he clucks loudly with every step while he is hunting for bugs. He obviously is not afraid of humans, loud noises, sudden movements and strange piles of old stuff sitting in the driveway, awaiting their place in the trailer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
SNEEZY is young and curious and cute...but he will get bigger, wilder and more aggressive as he matures and when mating season begins, it would not be a 'good thing' for him to feel at ease around us. He needs to move on and find a 'family' more like himself... Besides, the season of giving Thanks isn't far off, so if he knows what's good for him...Well! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
BTW...everytime he gets close to us, he sneezes...YEP! So checked and read that 'stags' (males) make the sneezing noise as a way to show off...Thus, the name 'SNEEZY'... And he has been showing off! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As for those who think it is fun to 'adopt' wild animals, please think before you do. They are wild! They need to enjoy nature as God intended... Let's all enjoy these wild creatures from a distance and hope they don't all try to 'adopt' us! BLESSINGS!</div>Barbarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03823686734325342095noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3181047138295852196.post-88518620430549474282012-07-15T15:41:00.000-07:002012-07-15T15:41:48.301-07:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Well, looky what has been hanging around Giles and his workshop/barn today... We had noticed a lone turkey poult wondering around the yard for a couple of days (don't know what happened to his family) Today, Giles was working on some things for our show next weekend and buzzed me on the intercom...said a young turkey had come inside the barn...the poult was in and out for quite awhile...then Giles buzzed me and said the poult had flown into the barn and settled down on one end of the work bench. By the time I got out there with the camera, our new friend was exploring Giles' tools and saws. Think he wants to learn how to create make-dos? So tame...didn't mind my joining in. If he keeps hanging around, I guess we'll get some corn to feed him. Apparently, he/she likes the homeplace for now!</div>Barbarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03823686734325342095noreply@blogger.com3
